Lifting bounties on Afghan officials will improve relations between Kabul and Washington
Hafiz Anas Haqqani, a member of the Political Commission of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan and the brother of Interior Minister Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, characterized the revocation of US rewards for senior government figures as a significant achievement in the political arena during an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera.
In his discussion with Al Jazeera, Anas Haqqani applauded the US decision, asserting that Afghanistan is now secure and that the Islamic Emirate remains dedicated to upholding the terms of the Doha Agreement, rendering such actions unnecessary at this juncture.
Mr. Haqqani also voiced optimism that the US would extend the cancellation of rewards to five additional Islamic Emirate members, believing that this gesture could pave the way for improved relations between Afghanistan and the US.
Anas Haqqani suggested that the US undertook this measure in response to the release of an American citizen by the Islamic Emirate.
It is noteworthy that the United States has rescinded the $10 million bounty on Afghan Interior Minister Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani, as well as the $5 million bounties on two other Islamic Emirate members, Hafiz Abdul Aziz Haqqani and Hafiz Yahya Haqqani.
