Today, the Australian professor known as Timothy Weeks, now bearing the name Gabriel Omar, passed away due to cancer in Afghanistan.

The Afghan Ministry of Interior expressed profound sadness over the demise of Gabriel Omar, stating that Professor Omar succumbed to a terminal illness at his residence earlier today.

According to the Ministry of Interior, he was initially taken captive by the Mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate in recent years, subsequently being released from incarceration as part of a prisoner exchange. He then voluntarily and eagerly embraced the Islamic faith, choosing to adopt the name Gabriel Omar in place of Timothy Weeks.

The Ministry noted that Gabriel Omar served as an English instructor in Kabul. He held a deep affection for Afghanistan and the Islamic Emirate, making the decision to reside in Kabul out of his strong affinity for the region.

In their message of condolence, the Ministry of Interior offered prayers for the departed individual to find solace in forgiveness and Paradise, extending heartfelt condolences to his companions and family members.
