Significant Decline in Security Incidents in Afghanistan
A recent report released by the Institute for Economics and International Peace sheds light on a remarkable decrease in security incidents observed in Afghanistan, marking the first substantial decline since 2007.
According to the report, security incidents in Afghanistan witnessed an 81% reduction in 2023, representing a noteworthy milestone in the country's security landscape. This reduction is the most significant decrease recorded since 2007.
The report further reveals that the number of fatalities resulting from terrorist and security attacks in 2023 decreased to 519, demonstrating an 81% decline compared to previous years.
In contrast, global security attacks resulted in a 22% increase in deaths, with a devastating toll of 8,352 lives lost.
It is important to note that the report does not address the tragic loss of over 36,000 individuals, primarily women and children, who fell victim to aggression, terrorism, and crimes perpetrated by the Israeli occupation.
